Rabbi Jonathan Rietti - a descendant of the Sephardic leader the Ben Ish Chai and son of the famous British actor Robert Rietti, received his rabbinical diploma from Gateshead Talmudical College, England, after which he helped establish the now flourishing Kollel in Gibraltar. Having received a master's in education, he practiced for eighteen years as an educational consultant to parents of gifted children and those with ADD.  With Montessori training, he has developed a curriculum which dovetails a Torah education with Montessori methodology.

Rabbi Rietti has authored over twenty five lecture albums on topics including inner growth, health, parenting and Jewish identity, and draws upon his background in the film and advertising industries to entertain the listener while sharing powerful insights on love, happiness & ‘emotional intelligence.'

YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO ATTEND A MOVING VIDEO PRESENTATION AND HEAR FROM RABBI MOSHE GOLDSMITH OF ITAMAR

Tuesday, August 3, 2004, 8:30 pm

Congregation Ohr Torah and Rabbi Mordekai Shapiro are proud to host Rabbi Moshe Goldsmith of Itamar, a settlement located in the Shechem region of Israel.  Rabbi Goldsmith grew up in New York and has been living in Itamar since 1986.

Rabbi Goldsmith has made this trip to New York to raise money for a desperately needed security camera system for Itamar.  Itamar has been victimized by terrorist attacks and is in desperate need of completing a security camera system, which has already proven to save the lives of the men, women and children that reside in Itamar.   I am sure most of us have
heard of the Shabo Family massacre where a mother, her three children and the head of the response team were killed by a terrorist.  This occurred at Itamar and Rabbi Goldsmith personally responded to this incident, as well as others.  Rabbi Goldsmith has a moving and inspirational story to tell that we all need to hear.

The entire community is invited to a video presentation, as well as a presentation by Rabbi Moshe Goldsmith.  The presentation will take place as
follows:

Congregation Ohr Torah, 410 Hungry Harbor Road , North Woodmere, New York -In the Gold Room (Rear Entrance) Date:   Tuesday, August 3, 2004 Time:   8:30 pm.  (Mincha and Maariv will begin at 8:00 pm)

CONGREGATION OHR TORAH AT 40:
A CELEBRATION OF PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE

On October 26, 2003 Congregation Ohr Torah celebrated its 40th Anniversary at their Annual Journal Dinner. Ohr Torah has been serving the residents of North Woodmere and the 5-Town Community since 1963 and the Dinner Honorees represented both a link to the past and a bridge to the future.

[David & Kaila Moss]The two Dinner Honorees were David & Kaila Moss, honored as original builders and recognized for 40 years of service to the synagogue and community, and Neal & Zamira Neumann in recognition of all their more recent hard work and dedication.

[Neal & Zamira Neumann]The entourage of guests at the event included Elected Officials, Distinguished Rabbis, and generations of congregants with their children & grandchildren representing the growth of the institution over 40 years.

The Congregation’s spiritual leader, Rabbi Mordekai Shapiro, praised the honorees and stressed the importance of the past in building for the Congregation’s future.

Congregation Ohr Torah’s 40th Annual Journal Dinner Honorees

Neal & Zamira Neumann, David & Kaila Moss

We have just completed a most successful Yom Tov season.  On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur our synagogue was filled to capacity with nary a spare seat to be had anywhere.  That means that over 550 people attended services in the main shul and ballroom overflow.  In addition, our ever expanding Sephardic Minyan boasted an attendance in excess of 200 participants for the services conducted in the Gold Room.  The large attendance helped to contribute to a special spiritual atmosphere throughout the Yomim Noraim.

The Yom Tov of Sukkot brought many guests to Ohr Torah as families came together to celebrate the Yom Tov.  We had elaborate and magnificent Kiddushim in our Sukkah which was beautifully decorated with the artwork created by the children of our Youth Department.  It was also proudly noted that every man in attendance on the Yom Tov had his own Etrog and Lulav set for use during Halel and Hoshanot.

…And what about Simchat Torah?  Many in attendance on Simchat Torah said it was the ‘best ever,’ and clearly it may have been.  Hundreds of people, including over 100 children participated in the singing and dancing that brought vigor and life to a beautiful Hakaffot celebration.
